Abstract
The malignant fibrous histiocytoma was first described in 1964 by O'Brien and Stout.
Since then, malignant fibrous histiocytoma was recognized as the most common soft
tissue sarcoma in adult. It involves the extremities, retroperitoneum, and trunk. The
prognosis is poor and the depth and histologic grade affect survival. The primary
mediastinal malignant fibrous histiocytoma is a rare disease of all malignant fibrous
histiocytoma.
We have experienced a case of primary mediastinal malignant fibrous histiocytoma,
which was confirmed by biopsy with thoracotomy. Histologically, the tumor in our case
was pleomorphic type and the patient received post-operative radiation therapy. We
presented a case of primary mediastinal malignant fibrous histiocytoma with review of
literatures.
